Following the successful air conditioning maintenance of several purpose-built care homes within St George’s Park, 4Facilities were appointed to upgrade the ageing Sanyo VRF systems serving the St Augustinian residence. The existing equipment had reached the end of its serviceable life and was no longer supported by the manufacturer, making replacement essential for long-term reliability.
VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems allow precise temperature control across multiple rooms, making them ideal for environments where comfort and stability are critical. Working closely with Panasonic, we selected replacement VRF units that matched the original systems in performance, footprint, and appearance. This approach minimised disruption for residents and staff, avoided the need for redecoration, and ensured the upgrade integrated seamlessly into the existing building layout.
As part of the reconfiguration, several unnecessary indoor units were removed, improving overall system efficiency. In total, forty indoor units and four outdoor units were replaced as part of a carefully planned programme of works, with clear timelines issued ahead of commencement.
Temperature-critical pharmaceutical storage rooms were separated from the VRF system and equipped with dedicated single-split wall-mounted systems. These provide greater flexibility, more accurate temperature control, and improved resilience for medication storage.
All four VRF systems were fully installed, tested, commissioned, and handed over with comprehensive documentation and on-site staff training. The upgrade ensures long-term reliability, improved energy performance, and a future-proofed solution for the care home.
